Here's a chain of logic that should be easy to follow:
- If you want to keep fighting the Iraq war, you need the sort of military that can understand political complexities, speak the language, and not abuse the locals.
- Desperate for recruits, the US Army has increased the number of "moral waivers" for inductees found guilty of both misdemeanor and felony offenses.
- Therefore, moral waivers undermine the Iraq war effort, instead of helping it.
Not to mention the damage done to the Army in general. The Defense Department needs to stop this policy now.
