I know what you mean about Cordesman. I have his entire set of "Lessons of Modern War" (four volumes) and his latest "Iraq War" book. He has so much detail on operations and weapon systems that I think he sometimes fails to follow through and outline a pattern and make observations accordingly. Or at least, it's hard to drill out the short version of his analysis and move on from there. But he is an excellent analyst and I'm glad he's doing his thing.
